The novel consists of two parts: “The Quasimodo Syndrome” and “The President of Quasimodo.” The action takes place in the easily recognizable fictional state of Bogoslavia. Alexey, an English teacher at a high school, has no luck at work and in his personal life. On one of the most unfortunate days, he wrote a letter of despair to the Kremlin, broke up with his mistress and got into a fight with a policeman. He was saved from trial by a lawyer named Lucius Fer who came from nowhere. Alexei signed a contract with his blood that he would sell his soul and for this he would receive the opportunity to achieve success in those things that he would do himself. Alexey, thanks to his natural ingenuity, opened his own business and became a successful entrepreneur. Everyone who tried to stand in his way or threatened him fell ill with Quasimodo syndrome, that is, they became freaks, similar to the bell ringer Quasimodo in Notre Dame Cathedral. Alexey successfully participated in negotiations on Nord Stream and had a clash with Swedish military intelligence.
